A new Russian Library and Community Information Centre’s  project “Sharing the Gift of Books”  encourages seniors  to share thier skills, knowledge, cultural expiriences with children through reading books togehter, teaching children how to read in Russian, discussing books and telling stories.

“Seniors and Children Read Together” is a FREE reading motivation program for children.

Sharing the gift of booksChildren ages 4 to 12 are welcome! Enjoy a story read by our senior volunteers and participate in reading-related games and activities!

Starts: May 5, 2010
Sessions:  Once a week at two locations

The Russian Library is looking for individuals who are 55+, who would like to share their love of reading with their children and grandchildren. Those who are ready to volunteer their time and talents will take part in the following program SHARING THE GIFT OF BOOKS

 The participants will meet to:
• plan and organize events
• recommend children’s books for public readings
• read books to children and have following discussions 
• exchange ideas about how to encourage children to read books in their heritage languages  

As usual, our meetings with take place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, with snacks, coffee and tea provided.

Cost of public transportation or car mileage will be reimbursed for program participants. 

The events will be held either at the Russian Library and the Community Information Centre or at Trendy Students Learning Centre.  Please call us to register.
